Ah yes, it's summertime, and we are finally free from the clutches of law school! We ventured up to Austin for our first weekend of freedom.
Our first stop was the Texas Chili Parlor, the famous chili house near downtown Austin and an official set of Quentin Tarantino's "Grindhouse." We ordered the chili sampler with Texas chili, white bean chili and a three-bean chili. The chili was alright, we suppose, if you're a fan of bland. It was a pity this place didn't live up to its hype. Mani still makes the best chili in town ;)
Next stop was the TV on the Radio show at Stubbs. We thought "Dear Science" was easily one of the best albums of the year and were eager to hear it live, so it was unfortunate that the sound was so poor. :(. Good times with our good friends Kevin & Jesse, though.
Yes, folks, we live in Texas...one of the few places in the country that trailerpark eateries could pass as both socially acceptable and hip. We got brunch with our friend John at one such eatery.
Yes, you read that correctly -- it says CHICKEN FRIED BACON. Again, only in Texas. Decadence made even more decadent...er.
In case you didn't believe us, here's proof that it exists! This is Mani's jalapeno jack & chicken fried bacon burger!
John's chicken & waffles. Val's migas & cheese grits. Mani's burger (mentioned above).
Last but certainly not least, we got dessert at Hey, Cupcake! -- a cupcake trailer featuring the moistest, most delectible cupcakes you'll ever eat. You have to order them with a whipper snapper. What's a whipper snapper, you ask? It's a squirt of whipped cream right up the center of the cupcake.
John's 24 Carrot, Mani's Vanilla Dream & Val's Snowcap...all with whipper snappers of course.
